Renovation Update Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 July 2013
MS Library

Hard to recognize the Middle School Library as renovation projects sweep the district.  Click on the image for more.

Construction continues across the district, with major renovations underway at the North Pocono Middle School.  The most noticeable change is the front facade of the middle school building, which will be replaced by brick, mortar, and smaller more energy efficient windows.  Another major change is the creation of the new main office, which is moving to the front of the building, it will include a secure vestibule for visitors to enter.  Throughout the building floor surfaces have been ripped out, walls knocked down, and old lockers removed, all part of Phase 1 of the renovation project.

District Officials Seek Permission for Occupancy of Lower Level Print E-mail
Tuesday, 07 April 2009
DSC01808

Construction of new high school nears completion and is on target to open in September of 2009. Pictured Above: The large windows illuminate the lobby and cafeteria areas.

Progress on the new school continues as some levels are ready for the district to seek permission to begin the moving process into the lower level. The lower level consists of several classrooms, Art rooms, Tech labs, Wood Manufacturing areas, and large storage areas.  Once permission is granted by Lobar, the district will utilize the storage areas for maintenance supplies, classroom supplies, and textbooks that are not being used during the second semester.  The school is still on target to open in September of 2009.

The final section of the school to be completed is the main entrance and the administrative offices.  The façade of the building is almost complete as the masonry and windows are finished in the cafeteria area.  The walls outside of the auditorium and the gym are finished and covered to protect them from paint and debris.  A school store is located off the lobby in between the gym and the auditorium.  The walls of the store are painted red and the trim of the windows will be trimmed in black.  The store will be operated by the FBLA club and will have school supplies and North Pocono clothing available to the public. The gym area has been painted and the locker rooms are almost complete as the workers install the lockers in the team rooms.  The lockers for the students have arrived and will be installed within the next two weeks.

Progress Continues on New High School Print E-mail
Tuesday, 03 February 2009
Cabinets in Tech Room

The Art Room begins to take shape. Walls have been painted and cabinets are being installed.

Even though the walls in the administration area have not been completed, it is no indication of the progress within the new school. The remainder of the front of the school is covered so that work may continue in the main vestibule and cafeteria areas. Within the building, the walls have been painted and tile and cabinets are being installed in classrooms, art rooms and advanced tech rooms of the lower level. The ceiling grid for the lower and mid-level halls and classrooms has been completed. Concrete was poured in the gym area and the locker rooms have been painted and are ready for the locker installation. Overall the lower and mid levels of the building are on schedule, and the gym and administration areas are two weeks behind. The general contractor, Lobar, has stated that the completion date of the school is only two weeks behind the original date.
District officials are coordinating with Lobar as to when the district can begin moving items to the new school. Because areas of the school are on schedule, items will be moved into storage areas at the beginning of May. Books and school supplies that are in storage in the current high school storage will be placed in the lower and mid-level storage areas. The entire move into the new school will begin in June and the date for the opening of school for September 2009 remains on schedule.

New High School Aerial Photo

Aerial photo showing construction progress of the new high school.

Paul Caracciolo, from ArroActiv, Inc. reported at the November 12th board meeting on the progress of the construction of the new high school.  He answered questions from the audience and restated that the school is on schedule for the September 2009 opening.  The aerial picture shows the progress of the roof and how much of the school is under roof.  Steel has been erected over the front of the building, and the design of  the front can be seen.  The work schedule allows for different stages of work to be completed in different sections of the building.  While steel is being erected on the front of the building, painting is being done in the food court and other areas.  Officials from the school district are hoping the general contractor, Lobar, will allow for the district to begin tours for the public.

Progress Continues on New School Print E-mail

Shown above are the food court and mechanical rooms.

Construction on the new high school continues and is on schedule for the September 2009 opening. Some of the most apparent signs of progress can be seen in four areas. The roof is being applied over the food court and the mechanical room areas. The concrete masonry façade has been applied to the south and east side of the building. The third area of progress can be seen at the soccer field which should be seeded by the end of next week. Grading for the baseball and softball field will begin before the end of the month. Finally, interior partition walls for the upper level are being constructed with most of the classrooms' partitions of the lower levels completed.

The new school building will allow the district to offer students a better educational environment that is more conducive to learning. One of several improvements for the district is the increase of square footage dedicated for the music department. The current high school has one choral room, and one band room and limited storage area. The new high school will have a large band room, large choral room, music lab, music library, three rooms for small group instruction, two classrooms for music instruction, and several areas for instrument and uniform storage.
