THE RAINFOREST IS COMING! Print E-mail
Friday, 22 September 2017

Snakes, monkeys, kinkajous, beautiful parrots, macaws, amazons and cockatoos from around the world are all coming to our area.

Arrangements have been made for an appearance of Understanding Wildlife’s
“LIVE ON STAGE, THE RAINFOREST” to appear in our community. This will take place at North Pocono Middle School on Thursday, October 12.

Understanding Wildlife is a non-profit organization that travels from California to New York City with this incredible rainforest program. Animal trainers will make a presentation during the day for all students at Jefferson Elementary at 1:30 p.m. They will explain how energy conservation and recycling can help save beautiful animals of the rainforests.

Then at North Pocono Middle School at 6:00 p.m., a wildly entertaining program will be put on for your entire family. Students will be able to interact with a few of these magnificent creatures. Flying macaws, talking amazons, and very mischievous monkeys will keep you laughing all night long.

There is no cost for this program. Plan now to attend and please, all children must be accompanied by an adult. This is an event that will be enjoyed by the entire family.

Mark your calendar now.

Thursday, October 12 at North Pocono Middle School at 6:00 p.m.

Throw Kindness Like Confetti Print E-mail
Thursday, 14 September 2017

“Throw Kindness like Confetti” was the theme of this year’s Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Kickoff. On Friday, September 1st, the students of Moscow Elementary Center participated in an assembly in which kindness was the topic. Our students discussed what kindness is and how their actions affect others.
After, the students were given pieces of confetti in which they were asked to write or draw a picture of how they can be kind to others. The “kindness confetti” has been on placed on display for all to see in the school’s main foyer. Some of the student examples were “help a new student,” “hold the door for someone,” and “when someone is falls, help them up.”

Moscow Elementary Center students from Mrs. Jacobs’, Mrs. Lucarine’s and Miss Scotts’ classes planted flowers in the Sensory Garden, on Friday, May 19, 2017.  Countryside Floral and Greenhouse graciously donated the dirt, mulch and flowers and helped the students with the planting.  Everyone had a chance to participate in the sensory activity by digging holes, planting flowers, and then watering them.  The students will continue to take care of the garden throughout the school year.  Thanks again to Countryside Floral for donating their time and helping us make our garden a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy!

I think I can, I think I can Print E-mail

“I think I can, I think I can” were the words being spoken by Ms. Dructor’s first grade class and Mrs. Goul’s second grade class from MEC as they walked to NPI for the second annual Writing Expo. After spending an entire morning being mentored by the writers in Ms. Latawiec and Mrs. Orloski’s fifth grade writing classes, the words spoken were, “I know I can, I know I can!”

The students from Moscow Elementary Center were taken through the writing process by all of the fifth grade classes on Monday, May 15, 2017. As each of the fifth grade classes rotated through their normal Monday schedule, each was responsible for teaching and modeling one part of the writing process, starting with brainstorming and pre-writing and ending with a published copy of their work. The fifth grade students showed patience, maturity, and expertise in the way that they guided the first and second graders in creating a paragraph about their favorite summertime activity. It wrapped up with a yummy banana split graphic organizer where each part of their paragraphs was written, labeled, and decorated. A fun time was had by all!
