On Tuesday, May 11th, 7th grade students of North Pocono Middle School were treated to a presentation by Jan Lucciola of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center. The center which is located in Milford, Pennsylvania is a non-profit agency dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of birds of prey. Most of the animals they treat have been brought to the center due to injury usually inflicted by man. The trained staff at the center treats and cares for the birds until some are able to be released back into the wild. Unfortunately, some of the raptors are unable to be released and must live out their years at the center.
Ms. Lucciola brought living specimens of the animals she cares for to show to the students. Some examples are the Solwet Owl, Barred Owl, and an American Bald Eagle. The seventh grade students study birds of prey in their science classes and were fortunate to view these animals up close.

For more information on the Delaware Valley Raptor Center please visit their homepage at: www.dvrconline.org. The site includes information on how to care for injured animals, kids activities, resident bird guide and many other resources.

Missing Student of the Month Articles Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 April 2010
6th_grade_Dec_SOM

Sixth grade "Students of the Month" for December.

It doesn’t happen too often, but every once in a while we drop the ball. It happened earlier this school year in December and January. Our friends from the North Pocono Rotary Club were in the building and Student of the Month presentations were held, but somehow the articles and pictures never made it to the website. Therefore we offer our sincere apology to the winners and their families for making such a terrible error.

In December, sixth grade assemblies were held to honor Kelly Fromert and Logan Masterson from our Diamonds team and Hannah White and Quentin Colo from our Emeralds team as our sixth grade students of the month.

Eight grade "Students of the Month" for January.

In January, we held assemblies for our eighth grade teams and we announced that Kali Slavinski and Jonathan Hernandez were student of the month on our Bears team while Kendra Kraser and Tristan Halliday garnered the honor for our Lions team.

All eight winners along with the winners from other months received certificates to commemorate the recognition and were the guests of honor at a special breakfast sponsored by the Rotary Club and held at the Elmhurst Country Club earlier in April.

Emerald's Greek Day Celebration Print E-mail
Friday, 23 April 2010

On Friday, April 16, 2010, North Pocono Middle School’s Emeralds’ team participated in Greek Day, an event to celebrate the completion of their Greek unit in social studies and language arts enrichment. Mrs. Jennifer Grudeski, sixth grade social studies teacher, has organized this annual event for over a decade. Students participated in a Greek temple building contest, enjoyed the Greek cuisine prepared by North Pocono’s own chef Dave Messarosh and the Aramark staff, and participated in the Greek Scholars Bowl. Several students dressed in togas or Greek hero attire to celebrate the occasion. It was an enjoyable day for our students and their teachers.
