On May 25, the students of Jefferson Elementary performed in their annual Spring Concert under the direction of Music teacher Mrs. Jessica Beckish. The concert was entitled Lights! Camera! Action! Each grade level (K-3) sang a theme song from a well-known movie. Between songs, Third Grade narrators held the audience’s attention.
The Kindergarten students performed the theme song to “SpongeBob SquarePants.” They even used kazoos, much to the delight of the enthusiastic audience!
For the finale, all students in grades K-3 performed “The Candy Man” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and “The Best Years of Our Lives” from the movie Shrek. The students had a great time and they did a wonderful job! |

The second grade classes at Jefferson Elementary recently held a "Reading Jamboree." With the help of parent volunteers, students heard books read by story characters, made crafts, played games, and ate snacks. The event was held to encourage students enthusiasm for reading as summer vacation approaches. |

On Thursday May 6, the grandparents of second grade students in Mrs. Hazen, Ms Sexton and Mr. Palmer's classes were invited to the Annual Grandparents Breakfast at Jefferson Elementary. With instruction from Music Teacher, Mrs. Jessica Beckish, students first entertained their grandparents in singing patriotic melodies including, "America Every Day", "Sing of America" and "One Nation". The cafeteria staff provided a wonderful selection of breakfast items for students and their grandparents. Grandparents enjoy spending this time with their grandchildren at their school. |

Students at Jefferson Elementary celebrated the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with a variety of fun, earth-related activities involving families and community members. Students in grades K-3 spent the day participating in hands-on activities related to the Earth Day theme. These activities were planned by teachers and implemented by dozens of enthusiastic parents!
The projects, experiments, and activities were geared toward teaching children about the world around them in a hands-on, exciting way. Students discovered facts about ecosystems like the rainforest and the desert, watched a volcano erupt, learned about birds and polar bears, and investigated the water cycle. They examined the effects of oil spills on animals and people, cleaned up simulated oil spills and pollution, and discussed ways they can keep the earth clean. They made toys out of recycled bottles, mobiles to remind them how to care for the earth, and birdfeeders to help feed their fine feathered friends!
The first annual Discovery Day was made possible by the Jefferson Elementary PTA. Their generosity was evident in every aspect of this school-wide event. Every student received a reusable bag imprinted with the words, “Jefferson Elementary Recycles.” Each student planted a flower in the beds in front of the school. The colorful pansies were provided by the PTA, as were the materials for all of the classroom activities.
Special thanks to Mrs. Judy Castrogiovanni, Interim Principal, for her help in organizing this educational and rewarding event, as well as to the parents, teachers, and community members who made the first annual Discovery Day a huge success!
