Educational Plan for 2020-2021 Update Print E-mail
Wednesday, 15 July 2020

As I mentioned in our updates over the past few weeks, the district has been gathering input from parents about their preferences for the 2020-2021 school year. The Department of Education is requiring schools to develop a health and safety plan for the reopening of schools. As we continue to work hard to craft and finalize our educational plan, please know that we are trying to make decisions based on information that changes daily. While in-person instruction is our goal, the district must be prepared to implement a variety of models to ensure the health and safety of students and staff. With that said, the district is preparing three tiers of instruction.

Based on the current parameters, the district would operate in either tier one or tier two. However, for families that have interest in a North Pocono fully online educational experience, which some preferred in the parent survey, please refer to tier three.

  • TIER 1: In-person instruction, 5 days/week with safety measures in place.
  • TIER 2: A hybrid model of in-person and online instruction, 5 days/week with one student group attending in person on Mondays and Tuesdays and another student group attending in person on Thursdays and Fridays. In this model, students would be required to interact online while not in person. Additionally, Wednesdays would be used for teacher planning, individual student interaction, online office hours, and student work assignments. In this model, students will view live interactive lessons when on-line that are taking place in their North Pocono classroom.
  • TIER 3: Fully online instruction. Some families have indicated through the parent survey that there is interest in a North Pocono full online educational experience. If this option is of serious interest to your family, please contact your child’s building principal to discuss this option as the district will need to address staffing concerns.

While we understand that there may be a need for change based on direction from the Governor’s Office, Department of Education, or Department of Health, we continue to strive for transparency throughout this process and want to let you know that we are listening to your concerns.

We will be finalizing our plans for NP students in the next few weeks with the goal to have the plan board approved by August 1.

Thank you for your continued patience and support...we are all in this together.

Bryan
