Local Students Celebrate Completion of Industry Career Camp

Skills in Scranton, the workforce development affiliate of the Chamber, offered a free, virtual Industry Career Camp for middle and high school students (6th through 12th grade) this summer, with 21 students successfully completing the program.

Participants of Industry Career Camp learned about cutting edge and emerging careers in Lackawanna County. The program – which ran from June 1 through September 15 – used video presentations to highlight local businesses, the quality careers they have available, and the pathways students can take to successfully acquire those positions. All students received a certificate of completion and a Chamber credential to signify their participation in the intensive employability and career exploration activities.

“Skills in Scranton is pleased to provide an opportunity for students, parents, and educators to connect with our business community throughout the summer,” said Amy Luyster, vice president. “This program provided virtual career pathways and exploration to every middle and high school student, parent and educator in Lackawanna County.”

This program was funded by a grant through the Lackawanna County Workforce Development Board. Local participating businesses included…

• Allied Services
• Benco Dental
• Coal Creative
• EAS Carpenters Union
• Fastenal
• Johnson College
• Lackawanna College
