Student of the Month
Monday, 17 February 2020

Nicolette Hine is the daughter of Connie Hine and Jason Hine. She is currently a sophomore with a full schedule including dual math of Accel Algebra II and Geometry, Accel Biology, Accel English, AP US Government, and Latin II. She has achieved honor roll status for the past two quarters and is currently in the National Honor Society. Nicolette is also a member of the North Pocono Period Club, Orchestra, and Drama Club. She was recently picked to represent North Pocono in the Voice of Democracy competition, which is held by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Her speech won the district competition and carried her to the state competition where she was awarded 6th place. After graduation, she wishes to attend college and become a psychiatrist with the possibility of working with the Veterans Affairs.

Phoebe Hnatko
, third generation North Pocono graduate, is the daughter of Sandra Kilmer and the granddaughter of William and Lois Kilmer. Phoebe is a dedicated student who is in the top 15 of her class. Even though she has chosen to give up senior privileges and study halls for challenging classes, she has achieved honor roll every quarter for all four years of her high school career. Both inside and outside the classroom Phoebe’s interests are varied: She is an enthusiastic member of marching band, a dedicated participant of The Odyssey Players, a passionate member of the Period Club, a mother hen to the Arc Angels on Stage, who also spends her free time volunteering at the Moscow Public Library, throwing pottery, creating fiber arts, and playing piano. Her fondest high school extra-curricular activity was playing her namesake Phoebe Snow at the Moscow Country Street Fair. After high school, Phoebe plans to pursue a degree in secondary education with a dual major in Biology and special education. North Pocono has not seen the last of Phoebe Hnatko.

Thomas Murphy is the son of Arthur Murphy and Donna Serino. Thomas is currently taking advantage of academic offerings in his senior year by forgoing study halls and instead filling his schedule with challenging courses such as AP Physics II, AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB, and Latin III. Thomas has received high honors throughout high school and maintained a GPA of 4.0 or higher and is currently ranked 11th in his class. In addition to a full course load, Thomas also is a member of the Dead Language Society where he has taken the National Latin Exam twice, earning two silver medals, and the Medusa Mythology exam, earning a certificate of merit. Thomas has also been a member of the Band Managers for three years and has been captain for the past two years. Thomas is currently employed at Bill’s Shoprite where he works as a produce clerk. In addition to all this, Thomas is still able to give back to his community by volunteering at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. After Graduation, Thomas will be attending college to major in Astrophysics, Chemistry, Education, and Latin.
