Mr. Cianfichi, whose son is in 5th grade here at NPI, came to our school with a Hydrogen Alpha telescope that allowed us to safely view the surface of the sun. Mrs. Eble's class and Mrs. Dymek's class were able to look into the telescope and see the boiling, flaming, and rarified Sun! We were also able to view the altered hydrogen found on the sun's surface. Mr. Cianfichi also shared pictures he had taken of the Venus Transit from the previous night. The students were also given special glasses that make it safe for direct solar viewing. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Mr. Cianfichi and the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project. We had a wonderful and certainly memorable time!
