Board of Education

Policy is set for our school district by a nine-member Board of Education, assisted by a non-voting secretary, the superintendent, and the district's solicitor. Members, who are elected for a four-year term, normally meet in a public session once a month. This session is termed a "regular meeting," and consists of board discussions, administrative reports and presentations, public comment, and voting on matters of importance.  As a rule of thumb, regular meetings are held on the first Thursday after the first Monday of each month in the high school auditorium; you should, however, always consult the district's calendar for actual meeting dates and times. The board also meets publicly in work sessions and special sessions, which are held as needed. The former is for information and discussion only, whereas the latter can include a vote on a given matter. The public is warmly invited to attend all public meetings. The board also meets as needed in private sessions, termed "executive sessions," for the purposes of discussing personnel, legal matters, contract negotiations, and confidential information.  These sessions are for information and discussion only; matters are not voted upon in these sessions.  The school board is dedicated to serving the school and community by working as a strong team focused on decisions that promote the achievement of district goals. Board members also are committed to a Code of Ethics that was adopted in 2006.

Three board members are elected from each of three regions in the district. Region 1 encompasses Elmhurst, Roaring Brook, and Jefferson Townships. Region 2 is comprised of Lehigh Township of Lackawanna County (Thornhurst), Moscow Borough, and Spring Brook Township.
