Food Service

The Food Service Office provides breakfast and lunch for students in all five district buildings all 180 days of the school year. The food service in the North Pocono School District is contracted to a service provider in accordance with the regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This service is regularly bid. The current contractor is Aramark. Aramark has assigned Mr. Nick Germano as its Director of Food Service for North Pocono. A graduate of Marywood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a concentration in Hospitality Management, Mr. Germano has over 20 years of experience in food service, with over 15 years as a school-based director for Aramark. Mr. Germano is assisted by an Aramark-provided secretary and a clerk from the district's business office who handles free and reduced lunch applications, account reconciliation, and reporting.

The office is responsible for:

• General operation of the district's kitchens
• Food and supplies acquisition, storage, and inventory
• Cleaning and sanitizing food preparation, serving, and eating areas
• Menu development and publication
• Compliance with all state and federal regulations on school meal nutrition, along with related record-keeping
• Compliance with all state and federal regulations on serving meals to students with regard to meal eligibility, along with related record-keeping
• Compliance with all state and federal regulations on food safety
• Tracking student purchases, payments, and balances; publishing the data to the lunch account portal
• Food preparation
• Food serving
• Special events catering
• Processing of free and reduced lunch applications (business office clerk)
• Communication with parents regarding delinquent meal accounts
• Collection of delinquent meal accounts
