7th Grade Gettysburg Trip Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 June 2022

On May 11th seventh grade students took a field trip to Gettysburg National Military Park. Students have been studying the Civil War in history class and were excited to have the chance to visit the site of one of the biggest battles in American history.

The students had the opportunity to tour the battlefield with a licensed battlefield guide. These tour guides took students through the 3 day battle and gave them the opportunity to examine cannons, numerous monuments, and get a close up view of the terrain and beautiful landscape. They traveled through downtown Gettysburg and visited spots such as Little Round Top, the High Water Mark, and Seminary Ridge.

The other part of the day was spent visiting the Museum and Visitor Center. Here students viewed a short film “A New Birth of Freedom” and then had the unique experience of observing the famous Gettysburg Cyclorama. This massive painting, depicting Pickett’s charge on the final day of battle, is the largest on display in North America. Students then proceeded to explore the rare artifacts and interactive exhibits in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War and let’s not forget the visit to the gift shop! Overall, it was a successful trip and many students were able to continue this learning experience back in the classroom.
